GOGEBIC / ONTONAGON COUNTIES – Warm Weather and rain over the weekend has taken its toll on the Western U.P. Snowpack. Highs in the upper 30s and low 40s and lows at night still above freezing has dwindled the amount of snow on the ground to less than 2 inches. The Porcupine Mountains Winter Sports Complex posted that they are closed again today due to the lack of snow and cold temperatures. The Gogebic Range Trail Authority posting that they are not recommend riding on the Western U.P. trail system until we get more snow. Gogebic Area Grooming on Lake Gogebic Reporting that trails are very thin causing damage to their drags and getting slushy. Gogebic Area Grooming says that Grooming operations have stopped until temp's drop and the area receives snowfall. Maybe some hope the South Shore lake-effect snowbelt could experience accumulating lake-effect snow Thursday through Friday with high temperatures closer to normal in the mid-20s starting on Wednesday below normal with highs in the teens this coming weekend into early next week.
