IRONWOOD – On rather short notice Xcel Energy shut down power to parts of Ironwood for what they called emergency repairs yesterday afternoon.  The power outage started at 2:30PM yesterday and affected the East end of Ironwood in and around the Industrial Park Area.  The outage lasted almost 2 hours.  That outage also affected our broadcast signal and on-line streaming.

MINOCQUA - When he appeared in Oneida Circuit Court last week, the owner of Minocqua Brewing Company, Kirk Bangstad had hoped to have a zoning complaint against him dismissed and to have the court stop the county from shutting his business down by revoking his conditional use permit. That was not the case. Not only did Judge Michael Bloom rule against Bangstad, saying that the complaint against him was valid and that he would not grant the injunction against the county, but the day after the ruling, Oneida County revoked his conditional use permit, citing continued violations. Bangstad’s attorney filed a motion for emergency temporary relief in the state appeals court. The appeals court gave the circuit court a deadline to complete its denial of injunction and said the county could not revoke Bangstad’s conditional use permit until ordered by the appeals court. So, as it stands, Bangstad should not be doing business while waiting for the appeals court decision.

GOGEBIC COUNTY — Yesterday we told you about millage renewals that voters in Gogebic County will find on the Ballot for state primary election this Tuesday.  Voters in Gogebic County and throughout Michigan will also decide on races for the Senate and House that may play a major role in deciding control of the narrowly divided state legislature. In the race to replace Democratic U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, the Democratic primary on Tuesday features U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin and actor Hill Harper. The likely Republican nominee is former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, who is looking to end his party’s 24-year drought in Michigan U.S. Senate races.   In the First Congressional District which includes Gogebic and Ontonagon Counties two candidates are running on the Republican side of Michigan’s primary election.  Incumbent Jack Bergman of Watersmeet is being challenged by Josh Saul of Roscommon.  On the Democratic Party side Callie Barr from Traverse City will face off against Bob Lorinser from Marquette.
