IRONWOOD – The Gogebic County Fair starts today.  Today is entry Day at the Fair with carnival rides opening at 4:00.  Admission is free but wristbands for the rides are $20.  The Gogebic County Fair Starts today and runs through Sunday at the Pat O’Donnell Civic center in Ironwood.

GOGEBIC / ONTONAGON COUNTIES / UP — Democrat Elissa Slotkin and Republican Mike Rogers have prevailed in their parties' primaries for an open U.S. Senate seat in Michigan.  The candidates are vying for a seat left open by longtime Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow’s retirement.  Jack Bergman wins Republican nomination for U.S. House in Michigan's 1st Congressional District which includes both Gogebic and Ontonagon Counties while Callie Barr wins Democratic nomination.  In Gogebic County the Senior Citizens Program Proposal easily passing with almost 85% of the vote, Gogebic County Emergency Medical Service Renewal/Restoration Proposal passing with almost 78% of the vote, The Gogebic County 911 Operation Renewal Surcharge Proposal passing with 77% of the vote, The Gogebic County Transit Proposal passing yesterday with 83% of the vote, and the Pat O’Donnell Civic Center Millage Renewal passes with 74% saying yes.  In the race for a Gogebic County Board District 1 seat Dan Siirila defeats Bob Michaels by 2 votes 143 to 141.  Kathy Leonard is the new Marenisco Township Treasurer defeating Chris Longley 37 to 18. In Watersmeet township trustees’ race both John T. Oliver III and Simon Zelinski won the two open seats.  In Ontonagon County the Public Transit Operating Millage, Ontonagon County Separate Tax Limitations Proposal, Gogebic-Ontonagon Community Action Agency Senior Millage Renewal, Ontonagon Township Road Millage Renewal, Ontonagon Township Library Millage Renewal and Ontonagon County Ambulance Services Millage all easily passing.  Voting results tighter for The Bergland Township Operations Millage passing with 55% of the vote, The Bergland Township Roads Millage passing with 61% saying yes, and the Bergland Township Parks and Cemetery Millage passed with 62% voting yes.
