IRONWOOD – Power outages affecting the Ironwood area for nearly 6 hours yesterday.  The lights went out at about 3:15 yesterday affecting Ironwood, parts of the townships and Mercer.  Xcel Energy originally estimated the power would be restored by 6pm but the lights didn’t come back on until almost 9.  In Ironwood the outage mainly affected areas East of Douglas Blvd., affecting our broadcast signal and taking out traffic lights on US-2 at Lake and Luxmore Street in Ironwood and in the township at the Walmart intersection causing chaos for drivers. When traffic signals are out the intersection is to be considered a 4-way stop but while some drivers observed that rule others didn’t.  During the outage Ironwood police and Fire were called to Tractor Supply to a report a possible electrical fire.  Fire crews found nothing and cleared the scene. The shopping complex was also affected by the power outage.  With the power out and temperatures in the 90s with a heat index near 100 degrees many in Ironwood headed to the Hurley DQ one of the only restaurants still open and with power causing long lines for those trying to beat the heat.

N. WISC / UP – After 6 hours of power outages the lights came back on at around 9pm just before a line of strong to severe thunderstorms pushed though the region causing more power outages to the area.  As of 7:00 this morning in Northern Wisconsin much of the Park Falls area was without power.  Winchester, Presque Isle, and Manitowish Waters in Vilas County were in the dark with areas near Washburn without power.  In the U.P. UPPCO was able to get power restored to all of Ontonagon County by 7am with numerous power outages being reported in Marquette and Houghton Counties.  Verizon cell phone service is down for much of the Gogebic Range this morning.  Another round of strong to severe thunderstorms are possible for later today.

HURLEY - Due to ongoing paving there will no longer be crossover traffic allowed between 3rd Ave and 1st Ave in Hurley.  This is temporary with crossovers being opened again later this week.  To gain access to the area east of 2nd Ave, you may use 1st Ave off of Silver Street.  This is for automobiles only as there are width restrictions due to the trestle bridge.  Truck traffic may use the Poplar St bride coming from the Michigan border.
