EAGLE RIVER - The Vilas County Board of Supervisors has voted to approve a resolution that would ask Vilas County Judge Daniel Overbey to resign from his elected position as the head of the District 2 Court. The board also decided that should Overbey choose not to resign, that the Governor and the State court system initiate the judge’s removal or that a recall vote be initiated. Overbey was at the board meeting, said he would not resign and expressed fear for the future of the court if an interim judge had to be appointed before the next election. Overbey was given a copy of two complaints filed with the county’s corporation counsel, which stated Overbey was still contributing to ongoing tension and unresolved dynamics that have created a hostile work environment. The complaints stem from an affair between Overbey and Vilas County Clerk of Courts Beth Soltow that became public.

N. WISCONSIN – The DNR is encouraging safe riding amid high ATV/UTV fatalities this year.  27 people have died in fatal ATV and UTV accidents so far this year, ranging in age from 4-79-year-olds. Five of those fatalities took place within the last two weeks. This puts the state on pace to surpass last year’s total of 32 ATV and UTV fatalities.  At least 18 of the victims involved in ATV and UTV accidents were not wearing a helmet, and over half of the UTV victims were not wearing a seatbelt.  More DNR conservation wardens and local law enforcement will be on trails and routes statewide today through Sunday to increase safety.

N. WISCONSIN - Wisconsin Republicans meet to discuss state wolf population yesterday in Rothschild.  Representative Tom Tiffany met with Congressional candidate Eric Hovde to discuss gray wolf regulations saying it’s time to allow hunting again for the gray wolf.  Currently the Wisconsin DNR prohibits the harvest of gray wolves.  There were about 800 to 1,200 gray wolves in the state in 2022.
