N. WISCONSIN - Plans to relocate Enbridge’s Line 5 pipeline is a step closer to becoming reality.  The Wisconsin DNR released its final environmental impact statement for the Line 5 relocation project in Ashland County.   Enbridge leaders released a statement which reads in part “The project has been designed to avoid and minimize temporary construction impacts, and we believe the planned route is the best alternative.”  The Statement also reads “The Agreement has been reached with 100% private landowners along the 41-mile project route, chosen because it minimizes construction impacts and protects critical and cultural resources.”  Line 5 transports oil from Superior, Wisconsin, to the U.P., and down into lower Michigan. The proposal would relocate the pipeline south around the Bad River Reservation.

GOGEBIC COUNTY - The Ottawa national forest is accepting public proposals for investments.  Applications are due Sept. 20 for recommendations of rural infrastructure projects.  The federal government is allocating more than $700,000 to the counties that the forest land is in which includes Gogebic County. The forest’s partnership coordinator says a resource advisory council will then determine how to use that money.  The stipulations for the proposals are they must benefit forest ecosystems on national forest lands and at least 50% of the funds must be used on improvements to transportation networks or watershed restoration projects.  The committee will review proposals on Nov. 1.
